I’m usually open to any genre, any type of book. But when it comes to beachside reading, I admit that I’m drawn to easy, fluid reads. Books that you can let your mind gloss over but still feel captivated by the plot, books read purely for entertainment. Maybe it’s the hot sun turning my brain to mush, but those are the kind of books I like to read at the beach. As we have been in Sicily for the past week, we’ve spent A LOT of time at the beach, and that means A LOT of time to read some pretty relaxing but captivating, borderline sappy, books. With my Kindle in hand, these are the books I’ve been reading this week.
The “TheHeir” by Kierra Cass
“The Heir” is the fourth book in a series of books, the first being “The Selection”. The series depicts a dystopian United States, now a monarchy. As for the storyline, think of it as The Bachelor plus royalty plus political rebels and deceit. Romantic and captivating, “The Heir” was maybe the best book I could’ve chosen to read at the beach.
“The Cage” by Megan Shepherd
“The Cage” tells the stories of six teenagers who find themselves kidnapped by aliens who call themselves the Kindred and claim that their abduction and imprisonment is the only way to save humanity. The book shows how their “cage”, an environment created and controlled by the Kindred aimed to be a mini version of the earth, slowly drives them all crazy, literally, and depicts their search for escape.
“Vanishing Girls” by Lauren Oliver
“Vanishing Girls” follows the summers of two sisters as they try to mend their relationship after an almost fatal car crash, or so the plot seems until the last few chapters reveal a shocking twist. In the book, you’ll find a story of love lost and gained, a broken family, and a love triangle that’s more than it seems. I absolutely loved it!
“We Were Liars”
by E. Lockhart After a tragic accident at her family’s summer house, the protagonist of “We Were Liars” has no memory of what happened the summer of the accident. The book follows her search to put the prices together and figure out what really happened that summer. But like “Vanishing Girls”, the end of the book sheds light on a shocking truth that left me re-evaluating the whole plot.
Hope you enjoy these books as much as I have, and feel free to share some of your favorite beach reads in the comments!

Added to my summer list- thank you!
